Carole Johnston trained as an agricultural chartered surveyor, but decided on a career change, making a hobby into a new business. From January 2003, ‘4 Afters’ began trading, and Carole is already enjoying the taste of sweet success!

From childhood Carole had always enjoyed making cakes and the opportunity to develop this as a business from home made great sense. Carole specialises in multi tiered stacks of fairy cakes for weddings, birthdays, christenings and anniversaries. Unique designs are developed for each customer to create a stunning centre piece for any special occasion, incorporating the colour scheme and theme of any event.

Carole also makes a range of dinner party desserts and puddings, chocolates and fudges. She has recently branched out to supply a range of stationery with a fairy cake theme, plus t-shirts and is constantly looking at new avenues.

Her first opportunity to mount an exhibition was seen at the Great Yorkshire Show in July, 2003, when she joined 15 other WiRE members from Yorkshire and The Humber in the WiRE Marquee. This was a resounding success, as she won the prize for the best exhibit in the marquee! This was sponsored by HSBC Bank plc and Carole’s prize, an engraved vase has pride of place in her kitchen!
